The Journey of a Vegan Dad
Hi, I’m Mike and I love the opportunity to share my Vegan journey with you.
I’ve always been an active guy, that’s just who I am. Sports, running, lifting, and just playing around.
It’s important to me that I stay active and now that I have kids my goal is to be able to not just keep up with them but to set the pace even as they grow up and have their own kids.
Going Vegan Helps Me Staying in Shape
Even though I’m not ready to admit I’m getting old the fact is I’m not as young as I was.
None of us are. It catches up to all of us.
So how am I supposed to be that 65-year-old grandfather playing hoops with his grandkids if I’m going to be, well a 65-year-old grandfather?
Simple, slow down the aging process and stay healthy.
This past March I blew out my knee playing competitive flag football.
The guys around me think I tore my ACL, but due to the pandemic, I didn’t want to go to a doctor’s office.
I rehabbed at home, drank turmeric, and slowly I started getting better.
How “The Game Changers” Transformed my Perspective
One night, while icing my knee, I watched the documentary “The Game Changers”
They talked about how important diet/nutrition is for athletes, how what you put into your body not only helps you perform but how you recover.
The studies, the research, the history – which went all the way back to the ancient gladiators – came to one conclusion: A Vegan diet is the right choice.
I watched this on Thursday night, June 4th. I went Vegan the next day.
My Healing Process Thanks to Veganism
I made adjustments, continued to research how to live a healthy Vegan life, cut out not just animal products but reduced processed foods as well and I could feel my body heal itself.
Not just my knee healed but I noticed that the aches and pains of everyday life were gone.
In July, I ran my first mile since my injury, 8 minutes. I have a Vegan lifestyle to thank.
One of the most important things you can do is lead by example.
As a dad, that’s obvious to me.
I see my kids growing healthy, eating smart, filling up on the whole natural foods that the Earth gives us and I couldn’t be more proud of them.
They’re growing strong, building a protective body against disease and they’re happy. I’m going to be 40 next year but I feel closer to 25.
I’m slowing down the aging process and enjoying every step along the way.
All thanks to going Vegan!
